From a small single store to a multi-store chain operation, MC Sports has enjoyed phenomenal growth in a short time. Established in 1946, MC Sports had its start as Michigan Clothiers, a single store in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In the early days, men's clothing shared shelf space with military surplus items and recreational products.
The Company capitalized on the increase in leisure time activities available to people in the early 1960's and shifted its emphasis to focus completely on quality sports equipment, footwear and apparel, creating one of the first sports stores with a wide assortment of products under one roof. The Company was renamed MC Sports to reflect this direction.
The 1970's and 1980's were periods of solid growth for the company as customers found our wide assortment of quality products at a good value very appealing. Stores were opened throughout Michigan, and new markets such as Chicago and Cleveland were entered. In 1987 MC purchased Morrie Mages Sports a three store Chicago area sporting goods Icon. Browns Sporting Goods of Peoria Illinois was acquired in 1989 to add 19 additional stores to the company's growing base.
Throughout the 1990's the Company has continued to expand through acquisition as well as new store sites. MC entered the Kansas City market in 1991, and has added stores throughout Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana.
Today MC Sports continues to grow with over 65 stores located in six states throughout the Midwest. A wide variety of authentic products, friendly knowledgeable staff and our customers trust have built our business for over 50 years. We now bring these same values to you over the Internet.
